“Finding Philip, he said to him, ‘Follow me.” – John 1:43
What do we do now?
“Follow me”
Where are we going?
“Follow me”
How long will we be there?
“Follow me”
This pretty much sums it up. It’s the first thing that Jesus asks of us once we trust Him to be our Savior.
When Jesus was here on earth, that was always pretty much the first thing He asked of his disciples…
Leave what you know and follow me.
Jesus still leads us the same way through the Holy Spirit and the Bible.
A great starting place in following Jesus is to find out what He’s already told us to do in the Bible and start doing that. We read the Bible to see how Jesus lived and what He said about what it looks like to follow Him.
It’s a little trickier when it comes to hearing and following the Holy Spirit but as we get more familiar with what God has already said in the Bible, we get better at recognizing the whisper and nudges of the Spirit as He leads us.
What we will NOT get from God is a ten year plan or a map that shows us the whole journey ahead.
It will be more like being given a compass and all we know is the next set of coordinates to follow.
